Currency Converter FAQ

What is a currency converter?

A currency converter calculates the equivalent value of an amount in another currency using an available exchange rate.

Are the exchange rates live trading rates?

The converter uses the latest available daily reference rate returned by its exchange-rate provider. It is not intended to provide live trading or intraday market quotes.

How do I convert an amount between currencies?

Enter the amount, select the source and destination currencies, and choose Convert. The result includes the converted amount, exchange rate, and rate date.

Can I swap the two currencies?

Yes. Swap reverses the currencies and starts another conversion. If a successful result still matches the current inputs, its unrounded numeric amount becomes the new source amount. Otherwise, the entered amount is kept.

Do I need an account to use the currency converter?

No account is required. The converter is designed to run directly in a modern web browser.

Rate dates, connectivity and fallback behavior

The converter requests the latest available pair rate from Frankfurter v2 and shows the observation date returned with it. Latest available does not necessarily mean today's date. These are reference-rate estimates, not live trading quotes or guaranteed bank, card or cash-exchange prices.

Cross-currency conversion requires an online rate request. If the currency list cannot be loaded, the tool provides a basic list of names only, not offline exchange rates. Some pairs may be unavailable. Requests time out after approximately 12 seconds instead of remaining pending indefinitely.

Converting a currency to itself uses a rate of 1 without requesting an exchange rate. Its rate date is marked not applicable. The tool has no application-level cache of saved exchange rates; browser, network or provider caching may still affect delivery.

Precision, swapping and privacy

Converted amounts normally display up to two decimal places. Very small positive results display additional significant digits so they do not appear as zero. Unit rates display up to ten significant digits. These are display conventions, not guaranteed currency settlement precision; calculations use JavaScript floating-point numbers.

Changing an input clears the previous result. Controls are locked while rates are being fetched, and failed requests leave no old result presented as a new conversion. Swap reuses the internal numeric result only when it matches the current inputs, rather than reading a rounded number from the screen.

The browser requests currency codes from Frankfurter and multiplies the returned rate by the amount locally. The amount is not included in the rate request. The page also loads analytics, advertising and supporting resources.

No provider fees, bank spreads or transfer charges are included. Use the displayed amount as an estimate and check the actual quote before exchanging or sending money.
